Ungrateful

Flip flip flip,
He flipped a wing
Dragging the other
A broken one across the ground
Hop hop hop
He struggled along the field
A fractured limb
A beaten body
Evidence of a fierce battle
Fought and lost

His eyes blinked
Evident in them
The dying embers
Of a once vibrant spirit
The door to a bleeding heart
Of a once idolized hero
Now a rejected king
Strewn by a sadness
Of a lost hope

Flip flip flip
hop hop hop
Into her warm nest she let him
He gained her sympathy
He appealed to her soul
With no reservations
She nursed him by day
Lullied him to bed by night
Massaged his sore limbs
Scrapped mud out of his feathers

Love and care she poured
Into his empty heart
Hoping it would root
A meaning profound
A purpose to rise
Fight the battle again
She preached reason
She read him encouragement
She fed him faith
His body stengthened
His spirit fortified

In her pride in him
She was oblivious
To the seeds of vengeance
sprouting underneath
Weeds of hatred
Crowding his entire being
She now wishes

She has been
A keen observer
She should have realized
beneath the beeseching eyes
Lay a betraying spirit

When he regained his vigour
When he flew a distance further
And realized his wings could beat air
He now flies past the nest
That hosted and nurtured him
With an obnoxious flock
Sneering at her humble abode
Littering it with his droppings
Torturing the weaker of the skies
Ruling tyrannically
How thankless!!!
